Active and passive defence strategy:

Active variant includes: loud hissing, non-biting strikes (rarely with opened mouth), head enlargement & stinky secretion.

In passive strategy Grass snake covers the head or "acts as dead" by reverting the head or body, mouth opening with tounge out & becomes still.

When Grass Snake does not feel threatend any more it  relaxes and can be a very patient "photo-model".
